At Le Tenon et la Mortaise, we design furniture that makes room—for living, creating, collecting and making a place your own.
Founded by Caroline Roberge and Benoit St-Jean, our studio grew from a shared desire to build a life where craftsmanship, family and creativity could evolve together. After meeting at Montréal's École d'Ébénisterie d'Art, we chose to establish our workshop in Saint-André-de-Kamouraska, on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, where we could shape both our work and our way of life with intention.
Every piece is designed and handcrafted in our workshop from carefully selected North American hardwoods. Guided by traditional cabinetmaking, contemporary design and a deep respect for natural materials, we create furniture meant to endure—pieces that can be repaired, lived with and passed on.
We don't believe furniture should dictate how it ought to be used.
A shelf may become a library, a display for ceramics or a home for growing plants. A stool may serve as a bedside table, a side table or an extra seat around the table. As life changes, the role of each piece can change with it.
Rather than filling a space, we hope our furniture creates room within it.
